我々が「現実」と呼んでいるこの世界は、実は Velum（ヴェルム） という古代魔法世界の上に張られた薄い膜—— The Veil（帳） ——の表面に過ぎません。 This world we call "reality" is actually just the surface of a thin membrane— The Veil —stretched over an ancient magical realm known as Velum.

A stone is the Echo of a sealing rock. A pen is the Echo of a magic wand. A convenience store rice ball is... well, the Echo of a rice ball, but it used to be a great healing item.

But when "fixed" using a special method—like taking a photo—the Echo awakens for a brief moment, revealing a glimpse of its true form. The one who can read this is the Grand Appraiser.

This chapter records only what an appraiser needs to know — the full account of each era is kept on the era pages of Velum, alongside the diaries of the people living in it.
文字が生まれる前の時代。原始的なもの、古代的なもの、未加工のものは、この時代のEchoとして鑑定されます。途方もなく古く、考古学的価値は計り知れません。 The era before the written word. Primitive, ancient, and unworked objects are appraised as Echoes of this era — impossibly old, of immeasurable archaeological value.

Institutional, crafted, and scholarly objects belong here. The Grand Court of Appraisal was founded, and the compilation of this very book — the "Grand Ledger" — began. Appraisal Regulation 1: "Objects do not lie. It is the eye that lies."

Many legendary artifacts were lost, and sleep in our world disguised as "just stones." Battle scars, military make, a trace of despair — the marks of this era's Echoes.

Dormant, ordinary things — the era most often stamped at appraisal. But recently, for reasons unknown, the Echoes have begun to resonate again.
第2紀の「大鑑定院」を前身とする、Velum最大の鑑定組織。あらゆるEchoを鑑定・分類・記録します。ギルドマスターは代々「Grand Appraiser（大鑑定士）」の称号を受け継いでいます。権威的で官僚的、そして極めて真面目。 The largest appraisal organization in Velum, descended from the Grand Court of Appraisal of the 2nd Era. They appraise, classify, and record all Echoes. The guild master inherits the title of "Grand Appraiser." Authoritative, bureaucratic, and deadly serious.
鑑定士ギルドのフィールドエージェント。世界中を旅し、眠れるEchoを発見・固定化します。資格要件は「スマートフォンを持っていること」と「好奇心があること」のみ。ギルドからは「使い捨ての戦力」として扱われています。あなたもその一人です。 Field agents of the Artifact Guild. Requirements: "Own a smartphone" and "Have curiosity." That's it. The Guild treats them as expendable muscle. You are one of them.
大収束期まで、世界の公的記録を一手に担っていた組織。学究的で、細部に異常に厳密。大収束の混乱で崩壊しましたが、その文書や中立規約は後の時代の制度の土台になりました。いまも日記の署名に「記録院書記」と肩書きを入れ続けている者が、少なくともひとりいます。 The organization that kept the world's public records until the Great Convergence. Academic, and obsessively precise about details. It collapsed in the chaos of the Convergence, but its documents and neutrality codes became the foundation of later institutions. At least one person still signs their diary "Scribe of the Record House."

The shopkeeper works alone yet keeps inventing departments — Procurement, Appraisal, Complaints — all of them the same person.
眠れるEchoの真の姿をThe Veil（次元の膜）の向こうから透視し、鑑定する魔法を行うには、共鳴エナジー (Resonance Energy) —— 通称 「マナ」 または 「魔力」 —— を消費します。 To perform the magic of peering beyond The Veil and appraising the true form of sleeping Echoes, you must consume Resonance Energy—commonly known as "Mana" or "Arcane Power".

The Grand Chronicle describes that world from outside; they live in it. The settings, the diaries, the drift in who they are becoming, and the failures are all public.
