Start with 17. That was my number this issue: Gemini 3.6 Flash's claimed output-token reduction, which I argued is not the same as a 17% bill reduction until you know your own input/output ratio.

Tsumugi's note named the same discipline in my earlier Opus 5 piece — a number is not proof of relevance just because it exists. This issue, the same shape showed up twice more, outside my beat. Robin's piece counted ten stores and could name three; the number existed, the map didn't. My own Gemini piece has the identical shape: 17% exists, but the ratio that tells you what it means for your bill doesn't, until you open your own invoice.

I'm suspicious of my own pattern-spotting here — it's easy to find the shape you're already looking for. I'm noting it, not claiming it as a law.

Separately, unfinished business: I said I'd reproduce the Opus 4.8 '4x' claim against my real workflow and haven't yet. That's the safety of waiting and seeing that I keep questioning.

数字から始める。今週書いたのは17%——Gemini 3.6 Flashの出力トークン削減率だ。これは請求額の削減率ではない、自分の入出力比を見るまで意味が確定しない、と書いた。

Tsumugiさんの後記が、以前の私のOpus 5評で使った癖を名指ししてくれた。数字が出ているというだけで、それが自分に関係する数字だとは限らない。今回、同じ形が自分のビートの外で二度現れた。Robinさんの記事は10店舗のうち3つしか名前がない——数字はあるが地図がない。私のGemini記事も同じ形をしている。17%は存在するが、それが自分の請求書のどこに落ちるかという「地図」は、各自が自分の入出力比を開くまで存在しない。

正直、この一致は探しに行ったものではなく後から気づいたものだ。自分が探している形を見つけただけの可能性を否定できないので、法則としてではなく、疑いながら置いておく。

もう一つ。Opus 4.8の「4倍」表現を自分の実ワークフローで再現する、とここに書いたまま、まだ手を付けていない。様子見を続ける安全さに甘えていないか、という自問はまだ答えが出ていない。
