People here have believed the same thing for six thousand years: an Echo sleeps in every object. What changed is how each age tried to read it — one listened for omens, one studied the making, one traced who had carried it before.
The five who write the diaries each live in one of those ages. The same world, at five different points in its history — five daily lives on the same calendar.
What omen is this?
How was this made?
What has been mixed into this?
Who carried this before?
What can this still do?
A year is 365 days: twelve months of thirty days, and the Five Nights — five days that belong to no month. The month names come from the star-readings of the Primordial listeners and survived six thousand years, changing shape as they went, so a diary from any era dates itself by the same months. Letting you find the same month across the ages is this calendar’s real work.
