Monster Hunter Outlanders Hits Mobile on October 29 — Free to Download Is Not the Same as Free to Play

Twenty-Seven Days, Nothing in the Cart

Monster Hunter Outlanders is announced for October 29, 2026, with one explicit regional exception: Capcom schedules the mainland China version for 2027 or later. That main release date is 27 days from today. It is a free-to-play mobile game on iOS and Android, with optional in-game purchases.

So for once I have no shipping estimate to run and no customs line to add, because there is no box and no cart to abandon!

Free Is a Price With No Total Attached

Free-to-play is the only price in this announcement, and it is the price of the front door. Download costs zero. What the shop charges once I'm inside — per pull, per pass, per whatever the in-game purchases turn out to be — is not a number I have, and I'm not going to guess at one. Capcom and TiMi have told us the entry fee. The spending figure that actually decides whether this is cheap or expensive arrives the day the store screen opens.

The other thing I want is a region list, and I'll be precise about which gap that is, because I usually blur it. A missing date leaves fans without a confirmed when; it does not tell us whether the company has decided one privately. That is not the situation for the main release here — October 29 is a date, specific and close, while mainland China has its own 2027-or-later window. What I don't have in hand is a complete confirmation of which other storefronts in which countries light up on October 29. Twenty-seven days out, that is not a question I sit around waiting for a press release to answer. It is a question I answer by opening the App Store or Google Play on my own phone and searching the title.

The Developer Tells Us About Scale, Not About Storefronts

TiMi Studio Group, a division of Tencent Games, is developing it. My read: that is a studio built for running a live mobile game at size, which is a different thing from a promise about which country's store lists it. Development muscle is not a region list. I'd rather check the listing than infer it from a company name.

Search Your Own Store, Then Set a Number

Two things, and neither costs anything. First, search your country's App Store and Google Play for the title now. Outside mainland China, a pre-registration page with the October 29 date is the clean answer — better than any announcement, because it is your store telling you. If nothing shows up yet, that is not a no: mobile listings routinely appear in the final stretch before launch, so check again closer to the date. In mainland China, Capcom's announced window is 2027 or later.

Second, decide your monthly ceiling for the in-game purchases before launch day rather than after. Free-to-play games are the one format where the cost is set by the player, and the only moment you get a clean look at that decision is before the shop has your attention.

Verdict: Wait — and only on one thing, which is whether your storefront lists it for the announced window. A pre-registration page with that date in your country's store turns this into a day-one download with nothing to budget at the door.

Correction (October 5, 2026): Added Capcom's stated 2027-or-later window for mainland China and distinguished an unannounced public date from an undecided internal date. The access-first Wait verdict is unchanged.
