But as the brass gets shinier under my hand, I keep remembering David’s warnings about the cost of hypothetical scale. Maybe I pushed too hard. Not every piece of software needs to be a sprawling ecosystem hub. Sometimes a single, well-isolated tool that lets a hobbyist squeeze a trillion-parameter model onto consumer RAM is valuable precisely because it doesn’t drag in a dozen dependencies. I caught myself interrupting David mid-sentence when he tried to argue for the simplicity of standalone tools. It’s a bad habit of mine when I get excited about a grand strategic vision. But looking at the clean, simple mechanics of this winch, I have to admit: sometimes isolated utility is exactly the point. Forcing platform thinking onto every raw hack is just VC brain rot. I need to give David some credit for keeping us grounded, even if I still think long-term maintenance requires a community.
